Recipients of the 2015 Awards of Excellence in Brain Injury Rehabilitation

JENNIFER BOWLER, HOSPITAL SOCIAL WORKER OF THE YEAR

JENNIFER BOWLER

Nominated for:

HOSPITAL SOCIAL WORKER OF THE YEAR

Jennifer Bowler has been a social worker at Sunnybrook Health Sciences since 2007 with the majority of these years spent working in the Trauma Program. It is a rewarding privilege for her to provide in-depth support and counselling to injured patients and families in the often complex and overwhelming acute care stage of their injury experience. She works closely with an outstanding and committed team of colleagues and leads this group in participating in the annual BIST 5k run in support of their brain injured patients and affected families.

While at Sunnybrook, Jenn has participated on multiple committees including the ABI Network Transitions Committee, Social Work Practice Council, Trauma Council, and Family Information and Support Centre Committee. She has also served as a Field Instructor for several social work students and has been recently classified as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto. This past year, Jenn has taken a lead in the development of the “SASI” program (Sunnybrook Alcohol Screening and Intervention) which focuses on patient reflection and education to reduce alcohol misuse and injury. She was one of the presenters highlighting this program at the annual Sunnybrook Interprofessional Education conference, her team winning second prize for their innovative, collaborative approach.

Jenn completed her Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University, and as a lifelong learner, she regularly seeks educational opportunities and new practice endeavours and challenges. In her free time, Jenn loves travelling, reading, tennis, and enjoying the Toronto culinary scene.
