Michelle Diamond currently works with Functionability Rehabilitation Services as the Director of Case Management and Client Services. She has worked in the field of Brain Injury for over 13 years. She graduated with her Master’s Degree of Social Work, from the University of Toronto, in 2000 and began working at Toronto Rehab on the Inpatient ABI service in 2001. Michelle was with Toronto Rehab for over 10 years in the capacity of Social worker, Service Coordinator and was seconded for one year to the Toronto ABI Network as Project and Referral Coordinator. While at Toronto Rehab Michelle worked with patients and families who had suffered traumatic brain injuries and complex orthopedic injuries, as well as individuals suffering from chronic pain and Multiple Sclerosis.
As Director of Case Management with Functionability Rehabilitation Services, Michelle continues to work directly with clients and families living with physical, cognitive and psycho-social issues following motor vehicle collisions. As case manager in the community, she supports the clients through all points of transition, providing both education, emotional support and facilitation of all necessary medical and rehabilitative services to maximize the client’s functional independence. Michelle’s social work training allows her to effectively connect and engage with clients and their families when they are at their most vulnerable, and to assist them in navigating the health care system and the field of automobile legislation.
Michelle is also on the Board of Directors of BIST, the Brain Injury Society of Toronto, and will be the incoming vice-chair of the board for 2014-15. She is a founding member of BIST’s Run Committee, which since its inception in 2011 has raised close to $100,000 to support brain injury survivors and their families. Michelle has presented at a number of conferences sharing her knowledge and expertise with colleagues in the rehabilitation community.
In her free time, Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, travelling, and performing in community theatre.
