Kellie Radley

Nominated For: HEALTH CARE PROVIDER OF THE YEAR

I am honoured to be nominated for the 2018 Awards of Excellence in Brain Injury Rehabilitation in the category of Health Care Provider of the Year as presented by PIA Law and the Ontario Brain Injury Association.

I am a Registered Occupational Therapist and I have demonstrated my commitment to individuals with brain injury for the past 16 years.  I started working within the private industry for a rehabilitation company, initially as the sole Occupational Therapist and then adding the role of Clinical Director to my responsibilities.  In 2007, I decided to make a change and started my own company. As an Occupational Therapist, I value ongoing education and have obtained the following certifications: Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) Certificate course from the Academy for the Certification of Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS), trained provider of the Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP), Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) Neural Therapy and Scar Release Therapy, trained AMPS assessor, and Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.  I have attended a full 2-day conference involving clinical skills training on catastrophic impairment evaluation with the focus on 2016 SABS CAT changes through the Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators and the Canadian Academy of Psychologists in Disability Assessment.  I am a member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and a member of the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT).

I truly believe that no matter how a person helps another, you create the opportunity to have a positive impact on that person’s life. This is why I wanted to pursue a career in the field of Occupational Therapy; I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. Occupational Therapy is a gift.  We give people the chance to live.  Personally, it has allowed me the opportunity to help people regain their independence, to help individuals learn new skills, to be a teacher, to be an advocate, and to be a small business owner.  I believe in advocating for my clients and their families when it comes to what they need and deserve.  I also believe in contributing to the learning of Student Occupational Therapists as a preceptor by showing future clinicians how amazing the role of an Occupational Therapist is with the wonderful clients we help.

I co-founded / co-chaired the Annual Summer Beachblast volleyball tournament raising funds for local Brain Injury Associations; in 2018, we are running our 5th Annual Tournament with each year more successful than the last.  I am a member of the OSOT Auto Insurance Sector Team, the Ontario Rehabilitation Alliance, and the Ontario Brain Injury Association to maintain my connections with the community that we serve.  I had set a goal for myself when I began my clinical practice years ago to present at a conference every 2 years. This year, not only am I fulfilling my own goal but I’m also supporting a client’s goal to present at a conference which is exceptionally rewarding.  I know that as a lifelong learner, I will strive to seek out educational opportunities that will not only assist my clients in reaching their goals but will also keep me excited and motivated to do my best each day.

I would like to sincerely thank my colleagues who nominated me, the supports in my life who allow me to do what I love to do, and the clients who trust, encourage and inspire me every day.
