Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab

Nominated For: REHABILITATION COMPANY OF THE YEAR

Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab (formerly Beverlee C. Melamed & Associates Inc., Innovative Rehab), is proud to be nominated for Rehabilitation Company of the Year in Brain Injury Rehabilitation for 2022.

Beverlee C. Melamed has over 45 years of experience as an occupational therapist and has been working in the brain injury community for the past 30 years. Aaron Palmer started as an occupational therapy student in 2017 and Beverlee recognized his potential and was able to fulfill her goal of taking in a younger partner. The partnership has been active since November 2020, with Beverlee and Aaron continuing to share the company’s philosophies and beliefs.

For over 20 years, the team at Melamed Palmer Inc., have been committed to our work, providing client/family centered services and engaging them in their care through co-creation and collaboration. Our staff, from the occupational therapists, rehabilitation coaches, and administrative support continue to work as an intimate, tight, and creative team. Our team is highly committed to their work, with some of our staff having been with us for 15-20 years! Our staff are constantly improving their skills and adding to their credentials by participating in training programs (e.g., BrainFx, BEARS – Brain Enhance and Recovery System, C-CAT, CCLCP – Canadian Certified Life Care Planner) and continuing education courses (e.g., OBIA/Brock University Certificate Training Program), attending conferences and events, attending and presenting at our monthly staff meetings, as well through working in the brain injury community. Our commitment to providing services extends beyond clinical practice, with our staff participating in events and volunteering with our local brain injury associations. Beverlee and Aaron are active members of the Ontario Rehab Alliance (ORA), and Aaron is currently a Brain Injury Society of Toronto (BIST) committee member. Beverlee won Volunteer of the Year for BIST several years ago and both Beverlee and Aaron have presented with ORA and BIST.

Beverlee was nominated for the Award of Excellence in Brain Injury Rehabilitation for Health Care Provider of the Year for 2017 and 2018. She is also the recipient of this award for 2018. We are extremely honoured to be nominated for Rehabilitation Company of the Year in Brain Injury Rehabilitation for 2022 and for the recognition of the hard work and dedication of our staff over the years. The resiliency of our team over the past few years, especially with the many challenges we all faced is truly commendable. These past years have marked a period of growth for our company. The support provided to our clients never wavered and our team has always been willing to adapt with each challenge thrown their way. This nomination is a testament to all their hard work and support they provide to our clients on a daily basis. We are grateful to be a part of and work within the brain injury community. We would also like to thank our clients for trusting us with their care and allowing us to be part of their rehabilitation journey.

Thank you to all those who took the time to nominate our company, along with Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA) and PIA Law for the nomination and support. We would also like to take this time to congratulate all companies and rehabilitation workers nominated this year. We thank you for your dedication and support for the brain injury community!

I was honored to work for Beverlee Melamed for 20 years.
I cherished always Bev’s professional & original; unique involvement during the rehabilitation process of her all patients with TBI. I gained theoretical and practical knowledge from Bev while working with our mutual clients.

  • Beverlee Melamed says:

  • Wesley Ciejek says:

  • Wayne Fisher says:

Since 2001 to present I have been working as a Rehabilitation Coach with Beverlee Melamed and Associates now known as Melamed Palmer Inc.

The philosophy of the company continues to be consistent with a client focussed mentality that is evident in the service that is provided. Melamed Palmer Inc demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills and as fully supported environment for its Therapists and Admin staff to thrive in.

In closing my longevity in the company is a testimonial to a company that deserves the nomination.

  • Jack Yin says:

I have graduated from the Occupational Therapy program from McMaster in 2020 and have joined Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab right after. As a new therapist working in this company, I have received immense support in terms of shadowing, informal staff meetings, paid formal education/courses, and feedback sessions. This is also during the time when Aaron Palmer, a younger OT, and Beverlee C. Melamed, a more seasoned OT and the owner of the company joined partnership. It was a significant but positive change for the company, incorporating experience from a seasoned occupational therapist and the creativity and passion from a younger occupational therapist. In addition to the original emphasis on the dedicated, creative, and client centered therapy, there is an additional emphasis on the use of technology (e.g., computer programs, smart devices, apps) in the rehabilitation of people with brain injury. I was truly grateful to be part of the implementation of technology and apps to improve people’s quality of life during the challenging times during COVID 19. As such, I fully believe that Melamed Palmer Innovative Rehab justifies for the Rehabilitation Company of the Year reward for the excellent and dedicated service it provides to people with brain injury.

  • Marion Feldman, Rehabilitation Coach says:

Working in rehabilitation has never been my goal. I always wanted to be a teacher! At first I was a kindergarten teacher and then an art teacher. I loved my chosen profession.

When I moved to Toronto my sister, Beverlee, encouraged me to join her in rehabilitation. What a change I thought.

Once I started working with my first client, a girl in grade 5 that was hit by a truck while riding her bike, I knew this was a great fit for me… my sister was right.

Working at Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab has been a wonderful fulfilling experience. Beverlee has an amazing skill of making us all feel important and part of a beneficial wheel that is driven by client centered goals. Now Aaron has joined the team and continues to grow and follow the philosophy.

What an amazing company and I feel so fortunate to be part of it.

  • Justin Pinos says:

My journey with Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative rehab began last year. Beverly is a saint. She started taking care of me in late 2021 due to my addiction to marijuana. We stayed up north on a regiment which she prepared for me for 30 days. She also made a medicine chart to monitor my anxiety drug levels. She also set me up with Aaron to be a life coach.

I would not have been able to make it through this year without the skills Beverly taught me. From the loss of my father to breaking my leg and being stuck for 2 months, Beverly has always been there for me. Her help was monumental in me being completely sober.

  • Rhiannon Rucas says:

The amount of support that I received from Bev and her incredible team during an extremely difficult time of my life will never be forgotten. The coping skills Bev has taught me over the years has made those bad days not so bad, now that I know different techniques to get me through the day.

Her words of encouragement have made me back into the happy go getter that I once was before my accident. You have always been there for me and you continue to be there for me. Thank you Bev and your unbelievably loving team!

  • Linda Levy, Intake Coordinator says:

I have been working in the brain injury community since 1992. I joined Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab formally Beverlee C. Melamed & Associates in September 2009 as Intake Coordinator.

I have always received a tremendous amount of mentoring and support from Beverlee C. Melamed and now from Aaron Palmer.

Melamed Palmer Inc., is actively involved in the brain injury community. We are extremely client-centred and our team works together to give our clients the treatment and services they need to reach their therapy goals.

I am honored to be a member of this company and proud that we have been nominated.

  • Maryssa Galvao, Occupational Therapist says:

I have been working at Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab since January 2022 after graduating from my Masters in OT in July 2021. As a new graduate, I was looking for a company where I could thrive, learn, and be supported and I found that with Melamed Palmer Inc. and under the mentorship of Bev and Aaron. I knew my passion for occupational therapy long before I started my career but after graduation, I was struggling to find the OT area I was passionate about. Bev and Aaron are incredibly passionate about working with people with brain injuries and working towards their goals, recovery, and increasing their quality of life. Under their leadership and mentorship, I have also developed a passion for this work. Melamed Palmer Inc. is committed to client-centered care and engaging clients to be part of their recovery journey and I’m so proud to be able to provide this care with my clients. Bev and Aaron are extremely welcoming and I always feel supported. Bev is a mentor that has years of experience and always has informative and fun experiences to share with me that I can use with my current clients and Aaron always brings a new and knowledgeable perspective to my cases. I am grateful for this opportunity to work alongside them and be part of a company that makes a difference. I look forward to how much I will grow and learn as an occupational therapist with this company.

  • Ray Cronin says:

I am pleased to write this letter on behalf of Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative rehab, and their nomination for the Rehabilitation Company of the Year award. The team at Melamed Palmer Inc., is highly suitable and deserving for this honour!

I had the pleasure of meeting the team back in 2017 as a university grad seeking to gain some volunteer experience and expertise in the field of Occupational Therapy. When many Occupational Therapy focused organizations wouldn’t give me the time of day, Melamed Palmer Inc (Beverlee C. Melamed & Associates Inc. at the time) welcomed me with open arms. Beverlee and her team allowed me to shadow practices and contribute to their impactful work on an administrative level. Soon after I began volunteering, I was graciously offered a full-time position as a Rehabilitation Coach and Administrative Assistant. Here, I was able to gain hands on experience at the treatment implementation level for a client, working directly beneath their highly skilled occupational therapists. I was also able to contribute to medical documentation reviews and administrative tasks, that allowed me to gain a great sense of the operational organization and expertise required to run a rehabilitation facility of this kind. Additionally, I was witness to the innovative rehabilitation methodologies they put forth. I learned so much about the world of Occupational Therapy, Brain Injury Rehabilitation and business in general. As a result, I was accepted into a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program and the University of Toronto as well as the Master of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship program, at Queen’s Universities’ Smith School of Business. I know for a fact that I would have not gained acceptance into these programs without the valuable experience I gained during my time Melamed Palmer Inc, and as a result, would not
    be where I am today.

This letter is to clearly support Melamed Palmer Inc.’s nomination for the 2022 Award of Excellence in Brain Injury Rehabilitation as the Rehabilitation Company of the Year. Melamed Palmer Inc. welcomed me in like a family member, they treat their clients with the highest degree of care and compassion, and they act as true advocates for their long-term health. I’m so please to know that they were nominated for this prestigious award, and I believe there is no better choice.

  • Doug Long says:

My daughter Rosie was seriously injured shortly after her tenth birthday, in November 2016. After spending several weeks in PICU and complex care facilities, she was an inpatient at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital for six months during 2017. We were introduced to Beverlee Melamed during that time, initially to assist Rosie and advise her parents in preparing and adapting our home for her return in July 2017.

It quickly became clear that Beverlee was far more than “just” an occupational therapist. Her calm demeanour, huge wealth of practical knowledge and advice, and ability to navigate the sometimes bewildering relationships between healthcare providers, insurance companies and lawyers, enabled us as a family to concentrate on getting our daughter home – secure in the knowledge that the home would be a safe, practical and welcoming environment for a newly-disabled adolescent.

Since those early days, we have come back to Melamed Palmer on numerous occasions, for advice on appropriate adaptive equipment, home modifications, and medico-legal opinions. Beverlee and her team have been consistently helpful, prompt and clear in the services they have provided us.

Most recently, we had a last-minute request for a report to support some aspects of amendments to a Management Plan that required Court approval. We had previously been dealing mainly with Beverlee, but while she was out of the office, Aaron Palmer stepped seamlessly into the breach and bent over backwards to help gather and compile the necessary information.

We have been extremely happy to have worked with Melamed Palmer over the last five years, and as Rosie grows in confidence and ambition (she is, this very week, competing for Team Ontario in wheelchair track at the Canada Games), we will be proud to have had Beverlee and Aaron’s help in getting us there.

I have no hesitation in heartily recommending Melamad Palmer as Rehabilitation Company of the Year.

  • Ron Suter says:

I have known Beverlee Melamed for 40 years and have watched the development of Innovative Rehab since it was founded. I have business experience with both large and small companies and have always been impressed by her intense primary focus on her clients. I have often seen her working over weekends and while on vacation in order to serve them better. She is a very dedicated therapist.

I was pleased when Beverlee changed the structure of her business and welcomed a partner to share the workload and to provide an orderly transition as she prepared to retire in the future. She was very deliberate in her succession planning and, to the best of my knowledge, has made an excellent choice. The client focus has been retained and upheld during this transition and I have no reservations in recommending Melamed Palmer Innovative Rehab as company of the year for 2022.

  • Joan Digaetano says:

From the first day I met Bev there was a wonderful feeling that came over me… a feeling of relief that my daughter was in good hands. To sit on the sidelines and watch the two of them work together was the best thing that could’ve happened. Rhiannon‘s confidence grew so much that she went back to school. She had all the coping skills and strategies to deal with the world ahead of her thanks to Bev. The whole team and Bev got her back on track , my daughter had her beautiful smile back, most of all her laughter. I will always thank you every day of my life.

  • Josephine Pun says:

I work in a law firm for many years. My lawyer likes to retain Beverlee to provide OT and rehab treatment to our clients. I know her for more than 10 years. She is a responsible and reliable expert. She takes care of our clients in a professional, efficient and excellent way. She always responds to the client’s needs especially for those who suffer catastrophic impairment.

Whenever the lawyer asks for reports or records, she will respond promptly.

Beverlee manages her team very well. I trust her to do the work for our clients and our team.

I highly recommend Beverlee Melamed and her team to provide OT and rehab services.to the accident victims.

  • Melissa Vigar, Executive Director says:

I am honoured to submit a letter of support for Melamed Palmer’s nomination as Rehabilitation Company of the Year. Beverlee Melamed has been a longstanding supporter of BIST. She is one of our greatest cheerleaders, coming out to as many events as possible and mixing and mingling with our members, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces!

Aaron Palmer has recently become engaged in BIST and we are overwhelmed with the level of commitment and leadership he has shown. He has become the chair of our IDEA committee (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility). He brings with him to this role creative ideas along with a passion for advocacy and outreach. He has done a lot to move us forward as an agency and I’m excited to see where his knowledge and initiative take us!

Congratulations to the Melamed Palmer Innovative Rehab team on this nomination and best of luck!

  • Jef Melamed says:

I am happy you add my voice to the nomination of Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab. Both Beverlee and Aaron are extraordinarily dedicated professionals who exceed all expectations of their services in the brain injury community. Their dedication to their clients’ well being, advocacy and success is more than commendable. For these reasons, I feel they are deserving of this recognition in their contribution in this field.

  • Jane Cai says:

I am writing this letter to express my support for Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab for the Award of Excellence for Rehabilitation Company of the Year.
The occupational therapist assessments and treatments have meant so much to my parents as they have helped us to move ahead and to have access to what was needed for safety and building comfort in our home. The rehabilitation coaches worked with both my parents over the many years since their accident. Marion Feldman, the rehabilitation teacher and coach, worked with my mother with care and concern, and such dedication. My father truly loves Wayne Fisher, his rehabilitation coach, who was able to get him out to the community with such confidence, trust and reliability. Both Marion and Wayne worked under the occupational therapist supervision, with goals being consistent. In more recent months, Jack Yin, Occupational Therapist worked with Beverlee in completing the home assessments and research for the Life Care Plans/ Future Cost of Care needs reports and letters. Together they looked at not only my parents’ physical needs but their emotional concerns, daily attendant care needs, and our housing concerns.

I truly appreciate the services that have been offered to us. I am very grateful and thankful for these services over the years.

I have been a Case Manager in the ABI private sector for 31 years. I have known Bev for most of those, including having worked together as far back as the 1990’s. Bev and I share similar values re: client centeredness, thinking outside the box, and creatively, as well as meeting the client where they are and designing goals that fit the person. Lastly, we both employ humour and a good sense of Joy de vie in our work with clients! To that end, I would not hesitate to obtain her or members of her company whom have been closely groomed by her in order to treat even the most complex of client files.

I am honoured to be a part of the team at Melamed Palmer Inc., working as an Administrative Assistant and having the opportunity to work alongside the team of Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Coaches.

Receiving a nomination for Rehabilitation Company of the Year is an honour, and truly allows for the rehabilitation team to be recognized and acknowledged for the hard work and dedication they provide to their clients on a daily basis. The support our Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Coaches provide to their clients is commendable, as their support does not waver, no matter what obstacle is thrown their way. They are dedicated to finding what works best for their clients and ensuring they are receiving the best possible care and treatment throughout their rehabilitation journey.

The continual adaption and growth of the rehabilitation team over the years is amazing, and I cannot wait to see what the team will accomplish in the years to come.

Beverlee Melamed and I have known each other since our high school days. Her passion and commitment in her work as the owner and clinical director of Beverlee C. Melamed & Associates Inc., Innovative Rehab, has been consistent with a client/ family centered approach since it was founded.

Recently Beverlee has welcomed her partner Aaron Palmer, forming the new company name Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab. Aaron started with Beverlee as a student as she has always welcomed students, volunteers, as well as mentoring colleagues. Aaron and Beverlee are dedicated to client – family focus and therapy remains innovative, respectful and creative. I am confident in recommending Melamed Palmer Innovative Rehab as company of the year for 2022.

  • Melissa Rahaman says:

Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab. have been a valuable guide for my father Mark’s rehabilitation goals and continuing quality of life for the past 12 years. My family has learned so much and felt immensely supported by Beverlee and Aaron’s collaboration and team effort.

Beverlee has guided me through the initial challenges of caring and advocating for my father who was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury as a result of a motor vehicle accident in the summer of 2010.

Initially, when my lawyer connected me with Beverlee I was not too familiar with the discipline of occupational therapy. Soon I was able to understand how it could help someone suffering with a traumatic brain injury like my father.

My father was able to return to the community through the patience and clear guidance of Beverlee and the rehabilitation coaches Wayne and Marion. I felt that he was supported by an entire team that respected his individual needs and could help him reach his goals.

Beverlee’s partnership with Aaron is commendable, and through this partnership she is continuing to pass on her wealth of knowledge to a younger occupational therapist. This partnership also allows me to feel confident that this company will continue to grow and best
serve my family in the future.

I find it impressive that for over the past 12 years since my father started working with Beverlee and the rehabilitation coaches Wayne and Marion, there has been no employee turnover in my father’s immediate team.

Throughout a decade of struggles that my family has faced I always knew that I could always reach out to Beverlee. She never discouraged me from advocating for my father and always helped me to find the best solution to an issue we faced. I always felt I wasn’t alone when dealing with the responsibilities of a primary caregiver for someone affected by a traumatic brain injury.

It is also the dedication of rehabilitation coaches Wayne and Marion who have continued to be the reason why I have stayed with this company even after settlement of my father‘s file. They have become one of the biggest supports and friends to my family and I am so glad to hear from them regularly on how my father is doing and regarding their activities. It is this peace of mind that allows me to be optimistic for my father’s future and not despair when new challenges appear.

Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab. is truly deserving of the OBIA Award of Excellence, Rehabilitation Company of the year.

  • Peter Rumney says:

I am happy to write a letter in support of the nomination of Melamed Palmer Inc., Innovative Rehab for Rehabilitation Company of the Year.

I have had the chance to work professionally with Beverlee Melamed and her team for many many years. She has consistently been an advocate for her clientele and clearly has a passion for working with the children and their families with acquired brain injury. As an occupational therapist, she also has a very clear functional approach to the process of rehabilitation and the need for self-advocacy and the coordination of these self-advocacy skills in each individual’s rehabilitation plan.

With these principles in mind, she has set up her rehabilitation company and brought on Mr. Aaron Palmer to further these principles and ensure that her clients have the best therapies and interventions possible for their ongoing rehabilitation in the community. Specifically, they are firm advocates for their clients who are returning to school and need to have appropriate accommodations in their classroom. This is an area of great strength for this company.

I hope that Bev Melamed and Aaron Palmer will remain as positive forces for pediatric rehabilitation after traumatic brain injury in the community for many years to come.

  • Rosemary Whyte says:

I was pleased to hear that Melamed Palmer Inc. has been nominated for the OBIA Rehabilitation Company of the Year award.

For over twenty five years, I have worked with Beverlee Melamed, who has always shown kindness and compassion for her clients, and approached the clients’ rehabilitation goals with enthusiasm and innovation. She has always given her time and energy not only to professional organizations associated with support of the brain injury community, but also Individual attention whenever she sees a person is struggling and needs extra help.

When Aaron Palmer carried out his final student placement at Beverlee Melamed and Associates Inc., Beverlee was impressed not only by his emerging skills in Occupational Therapy, but also his skills from a business perspective. His vast understanding of computer technology has been a great asset both clinically and in the day to day management of the company.

Aaron had a quick grasp of what is required to be an excellent Occupational Therapist and rehabilitation team member, and now is co-owner of the company.

Beverlee and Aaron lead a well-honed team of occupational therapists and rehabilitation coaches who are personable, kind and caring in their approach to client care while maintaining a high degree of professionalism. Always willing to place their clients first, they go above and beyond to ensure that their clients are provided with the best opportunity to return to their pre-accident level of well being or are able to adapt to their changing circumstances.

Over the years I have witnessed the excellent communication among team members that have allowed for the free exchange of ideas with the goal of providing best practice in the community setting.

I am pleased to have the opportunity to support the nomination of Melamed Palmer Inc. for the OBIA Rehabilitation Company of the Year award. They are much deserving.
