Anita Bose

I didn’t hesitate for a moment when it came time to vote for Anita. Having had the opportunity to work alongside her, I have seen firsthand how dedicated, compassionate, and committed she is to her patients and to her colleagues. Anita consistently approaches her work with genuine care, professionalism, and integrity.

I have seen her handle many challenging situations under significant pressure, and she always manages to remain calm, respectful, supportive, and approachable. She is incredibly friendly and has a truly special personality that makes people feel comfortable around her.

What stands out to me most is the positive energy she brings to work every day. Her kindness, respect for others, and willingness to support those around her are qualities that I genuinely admire. She puts her heart into what she does, and it shows in the way she interacts with patients, families, and colleagues.

Anita is an exceptional colleague and a truly deserving candidate for this recognition. I am proud to work alongside her, and I strongly believe she deserves to be Hospital Social Worker of the Year.

Having the opportunity to know and work alongside Anita, I have personally seen how she consistently goes above and beyond for the people she supports. Her kindness, patience, and genuine passion for helping others truly sets her apart. Not only is she an exceptional social worker, but she is also an amazing person and colleague. Her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and dedication makes a meaningful difference in the lives of so many people. She embodies the qualities that a Social Worker of the Year should represent, and I truly believe she deserves to be recognized for the incredible impact she has on others. It is an honour to nominate her for this award, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.

I have worked with Anita Bose in neurosurgery since March 2018.
Anita is a wealth of knowledge in all areas, but she is specifically passionate in brain injury rehab. She often refers our patients and families to the ABI-program at the Ottawa Hospital Rehab Centre. She acknowledges how “acquired brain injury rehab” can sound scary for patients and therefore explains the program well, with reference to their detailed website.
She is passionate about caring for our neurosurgery patients and makes it her goal to give them the proper guidance to the next steps in discharge planning.

The best experience I had, is when a patient got diagnosed with a high grade glioma from imaging, but refused surgery. I thought this patient would not get guidance from neurosurgery without a brain biopsy and worried that this patient would not get any treatment of any kind. So I put a social work consult in on the weekend I cared for this patient and wrote in my note why. Anita saw the patient on Monday morning and guided her to oncology for potential radiation. This patient had an outpatient MRI later on and was referred to rad/onc from there, because of Anita’s work. During this MRI the patient’s husband came to our unit to thank me, but it was Anita who deserved the credit!
This is a perfect example of how Anita goes outside the box and above and beyond!

Last month we were in Anita’s office and she got a phone call from a patient’s friend whom she helped renew their friend’s health card, with exception forms etc. He only phoned to thank her for her assistance in this difficult process.
Anita is so thorough and so detailed in guiding our patients to the next steps, she really cares greatly. As a nurse at TOH for 19 years I have worked with many social workers and Anita is the most compassionate social worker I ever met. She loves working with patients that go into the ABI-program as she has seen great results in recovery! She sincerely deserves this nomination as it acknowledges her hard work and determination!
