HOSPITAL SOCIAL WORKER OF THE YEAR
Monica Cassin is a social worker in Sunnybrook’s Trauma program. In her clinical role, she supports trauma patients and their families through the recovery journey, following them from the point of admission until they are ready for discharge from acute care. In addition to providing critical emotional support and crisis intervention, she assists her patients through education, advocacy and timely community resource linkage. Monica is committed to social work education and is involved in hospital committees relating to the student experience. Monica annually offers placement opportunities to MSW students, and holds Adjunct Lecturer status at the University of Toronto’s Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. She was recently nominated for Sunnybrook’s Student Teaching Award. She is currently completing a program Healthcare Leadership at the Michener Institute in Toronto, and has been working with the Social Work Profession Lead at Sunnybrook to create a mentorship program for Social Workers across the organization. Outside of work, Monica spends her time reading, kickboxing, and running after the little ones in her life, which include her daughter and two dogs.
