Brain Injury Association of Windsor Essex
Nominated For:
COMMUNITY BRAIN INJURY ASSOCIATION OF THE YEAR
Founded in 2001, the Brain Injury Association of Windsor Essex (BIAWE) has become a cornerstone for individuals and families affected by acquired brain injury across Windsor and Essex County. Our mission is to provide support, awareness, and education to help residents whose lives have been changed by ABI.
To fulfill this mission, BIAWE offers a wide range of programs and services designed to meet diverse needs. Our Art Classes provide creative outlets for healing, while Skills for the Journey teaches coping strategies to manage symptoms. Happiness Hour and our peer mentoring groups offer emotional support and connection. Social programs, including Coffee Chats and Survivor Socials, reduce isolation and build community. Our Friends & Family of ABI programs strengthens families and support systems, and our Youth ABI program supports young people and their parents through peer connection. Helmets for Kids promotes concussion prevention, and our Seniors program fosters cognitive engagement. Our full-time Social Worker assists clients in accessing essential services. Each year, our annual conference educates regional professionals on a new ABI topic, deepening understanding of brain injury and strengthening care across Windsor-Essex.
As we continue to grow, we remain committed to expanding our reach and evolving with the needs of those we serve.
